Rink Rules
Alcohol and tobacco are prohibited at the Amherst Stadium.
The Dressing rooms must be vacated 45 minutes after the finish of the scheduled ice time.
GAME PLAY
1. All games will be comprised of a 3 minute warm up and three 18 minute run time periods.
2. Icing will not be called during running time play.
2. The last 2 minutes of play will be stop time if the score is within 2 goals. Icing will be called during stop time play.
3. Each team will be permitted to take one 30-second time-out during the course of any game. This time-out must be taken during a normal stoppage of play.
4. A Minor penalty will be 3 minutes. A major penalty will be 6 minutes.
5. No slaps shots or fake slap shots (minor penalty). Stick can not come above knee in wind up.
6. Point system Win = 2 points
Tie = 1 point
7. In accordance with the Amherst Stadium and the Town of Amherst, use of alcohol and tobacco is prohibited from the Stadium In the event that a player is caught with tobacco or alcohol during an AAHL game, the official will call a 3 minute bench minor penalty to be served by another player on the ice. The penalized player will be given a game misconduct and suspended from the league for the remainder of the season and playoffs with no refund.
8. Fighting and match penalties will result in an expulsion from the league with no refund.
TEAM ROSTERS AND PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
1. All players must be paid in full at the end of registration period set by AAHL Committee for that season. All players must complete and sign the Player Registration and Liability Waiver form before their first game.
2. All players must be a minimum 18 years of age to qualify for league registration.
3. Each player must play 1/3 of the scheduled regular season games for their team in order to play in the playoffs.
4. Team reps are responsible for making sure there is enough players before game play and have the game sheets filled out.
5. There is ZERO tolerance on bringing in players that are not insured through the league.
6. Any team that allows a player to play that isn't associated with the league will forfeit that game and one additional game. If it happens a second time the team will forfeit the game and 5 additional games. The third time the team will no longer be able to play in the league and will forfeit all fees.
7. Spares are only required if you are shorthanded and must be called by the designated spare coordinator. The team captain will inform the coordinator how many players are needed. The coordinator will have a spare list and they will be called in order.
8. Spares must pay an insurance fee of $25 and register with the league before being placed on the spare list. They will then have to pay $10 per game to the team captain who will pay that $10 to the league.
EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS
1. All participating members of the league are required to wear full equipment while on the ice (i.e. CSA approved helmet, shin pads, elbow pads, etc.).
2. Shoulder pads and facial protection (i.e. cage and/or visor) are highly recommended but not required.
3. All teams are required to have one set of matching Jerseys and Socks.
a. Any jersey with another team logo, or different in color will not be accepted.
c. All players must be wearing team jerseys before the 4th week of the season.
4. All jerseys must have numbers clearly marked (sewn, screened, sublimated, or heat-sync) on the back. Taped numbers are not permitted.
5. Team representatives must ensure that all players' names and numbers are clearly recorded on the game sheet.
CONTACT
1. Body checking is prohibited.
2. Incidental contact may or may not result in a penalty based upon the discretion of the on-ice officials.
FIGHTING AND/OR THE ABUSE OF OFFICIALS
1. Fighting is prohibited.
2. A fighting offence will result in permanent expulsion from the league, with no chance of reinstatement.
3. Fighting majors will be called based on the discretion of the on-ice officials. .
4. Verbal abuse of any official will result in the assessment of a 10-minute misconduct penalty based upon the discretion of the on-ice officials.
5. Physical abuse of any official will result in expulsion from the league.
6. A match penalty will result in expulsion from the league.
TEAM PENALTY ACCUMULATION
1. If a team accumulates greater that five penalties in one game the other team will receive a penalty shot for each additional infraction (6th penalty and up). However the infraction will be recorded as a regular penalty on the game sheet. Penalty shots are to be taken by the player that the infraction occurred against unless that is not possible due to injury.
2. Penalized players are not permitted to take a penalty shot.
3. If off-setting/coincidental penalties are called, NO penalty shot will be awarded, time will be served in the box.
4. The tenth penalty by any team in one game will result in immediate forfeiture of that game, unless it comes as a coincidental penalty. Penalized players shall not be permitted to take a penalty shot; In addition, the offending player will serve the duration of their penalty in the penalty box and their team will play shorthanded.
6. Teams shall not accumulate greater than 30 minutes in penalties per game. Any penalty beyond the 30-minute accumulation limit will result in immediate forfeiture of that game by the offending team.
7. If both teams exceed the accumulation limit simultaneously the score will be recorded as 0-0 and points will not be recorded for either team.
8. Teams shall not accumulate greater than 300 penalty minutes during the season. Exceeding the limit will result in forfeiture of the remainder of the season.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYER PENALTY ACCUMULATION
1. Individual players may not accumulate greater than three penalties per game. A fourth individual player penalty will result in ejection from that game and a one game suspension.
2. Individual players may not receive more than one-ten minute misconduct penalty per game. A second misconduct penalty in any given game will result in ejection from that game and a one game suspension.
3. Season and playoffs:
a. Any player who accumulates a total equal to or greater than 40 penalty minutes during the season and playoffs will be suspended for the next game.
b. Any player who accumulates a total equal to or greater than 50 penalty minutes during the season and playoffs will be suspended for the next two games.
c. Any player who accumulates a total equal to or greater than 60 penalty minutes during the season and playoffs will be suspended for the remainder of the current season, pending a disciplinary reinstatement hearing.
MAJOR PENALTIES AND EJECTIONS
1. Any player who incurs a single major penalty will be ejected from that game and will be suspended for a minimum of one game.
2. Any player who incurs a second major penalty may be suspended for a minimum of 3 games.
3. Any player who has been ejected from a game must leave the ice and/or bench/penalty box immediately, after which any remaining penalty time for the offending player is to be served by another teammate that was on the ice at the time of the offence.
4. Any player who has been ejected from a game for any reason will be suspended for a minimum of one game.
SUSPENSIONS AND PROBATION
1. Any player who has been ejected from a game and/or suspended will remain on probation for one year from the date of the offence.
2. Any player who receives a full season suspension for any reason; fighting, match penalty, individual penalty minute accumulation or otherwise, will remain suspended indefinitely pending a disciplinary reinstatement hearing.
3. A player suspended for any reason as a result of his/her actions during a game will not be permitted to play for any team until the suspension has been served in full.
4. Any player that is suspended from the league will forfeit all fees paid to the league. There will be no refund.
FORFEITS
1. Any team who forfeits before the start of a game will also forfeit the next game from their schedule. This will not apply to games that are forfeited due to penalty infractions, or for any other reason, during a game.
2. If a team forfeits their last game of the regular season that team will also forfeit their first game of playoffs.
GOALTENDERS
1. All teams are required to have a goaltender present and on the ice at the beginning of each game. Game play will not commence until both designated goaltenders, wearing regulation certified goaltender equipment, are dressed.
2. If a teams goaltender is not present at the scheduled game start time, that team will be allowed a 10-minute grace period. If the goalie is present at the arena and in the process of getting dressed prior to expiration of the grace period the game will be played. A delay of game penalty will be assessed to the team of the late goalie at the beginning of the game.
The AAHL reserves the right to add to and/or amend the official league rules at anytime as deemed necessary or appropriate by league administration.
